National Campaign Recognizes Chapel Hill Academy for High Achievement in Student Success

Sixty-one percent of children from low income families do not have enough reading materials at home to practice reading and reach grade reading level. Before the Ryan Foundation grant, Chapel Hill Academy did not have enough books to meet the School Library Programs Standards and Guidelines for a circulating library, so books could not be checked out for students to read at home. Read more >>

The Lena Pope Early Learning Center has officially earned certification as a Nature Explore Classroom. A collaborative project of the Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation, Nature Explore outdoor classrooms offer interactive elements, including musical instruments made from natural materials, gardens, messy material areas, and art stations to encourage creativity, develop concentration, and problem solving. Lena Pope received a grant from the Rees-Jones Foundation to provide mental health therapy to families in need. Since moving to the new Rees-Jones Counseling Center in October 2014, Lena Pope is working to provide therapy to 1,000 more families.
